What Motherhood Has Taught Me About Success in Business
Balancing a career and family isn’t about chasing perfection; it’s about embracing intention. As a working mom and leader, I’ve discovered that the same principles that guide me at home also shape how I show up for my clients, teams, and audiences. These lessons are universal—they’ve not only helped me find clarity and confidence in my personal life but have also become the cornerstone of how I help others do the same.
Here are five lessons that define how I lead, live, and speak—and how they can transform your approach to leadership, work, and life.
1. Time Blocking is a Power Move
Time is your most valuable resource, but it’s easy to let it slip through the cracks when everything feels urgent. Time blocking has been my go-to strategy for creating clarity in my schedule, and it’s a lesson I teach to others. It’s not just about organizing work tasks—it’s about making intentional space for what matters most.
I share my calendar with my son and family each week, so they know what I am up to and what I need to accomplish. And THEY are a part of that! When my family knows they’re on my calendar, they feel valued. When my clients and team see that I’ve prioritized focused time for them, they know they matter. Time blocking isn’t just a productivity tool; it’s how you show people their importance.
2. Presence Over Perfection
You don’t have to be everywhere all the time to be effective—as a mom, a leader, or a business owner. What truly matters is being fully present when you’re there.
For me, this means silencing distractions like incoming calls and emails, tuning into the moment, and giving my undivided attention to the people or tasks in front of me. Whether it’s a one-on-one with my son, a strategy session with a team, or delivering a keynote, my focus is on connection, not perfection. That’s where trust and impact are built.
3. Self-Care Isn’t Selfish—It’s Smart Leadership
As leaders, we often pour into everyone else and leave ourselves running on empty. But here’s the truth: if you’re not well, you can’t lead well.
I’ve learned to embrace self-care as a non-negotiable part of my routine. For me, it might look like setting boundaries, carving out time to exercise, or stepping away to recharge. (many times is an early afternoon nap) This isn’t about indulgence—it’s about sustaining the energy, creativity, and clarity needed to show up fully for others.
4. Ask for Help and Build Stronger Teams
Leadership and life are not solo acts. Whether at home or in the workplace, the idea that you have to do it all yourself is a myth that only leads to burnout.
I’ve learned to ask for help—and to accept it—because collaboration doesn’t just lighten the load; it builds stronger, more connected teams. Whether it’s delegating tasks at work or leaning on my support system at home, asking for help creates room to focus on what matters most.
5. Share Your Vision and Inspire Connection
People want to feel connected to something bigger than themselves. Whether it’s my family or a room full of professionals, I’ve learned the importance of sharing my goals and inviting others into the vision.
At home, this means letting my family know what I’m working toward and how they play a role in it. In business, it’s about aligning teams and clients around a shared purpose. When people see how they fit into the bigger picture, they feel valued, motivated, and ready to contribute.
How This Shapes My Work
These lessons are the foundation of what I teach and how I lead. Whether I’m delivering a keynote, running a workshop, or mentoring a team, my goal is to bring clarity, confidence, and actionable solutions to the table.
My work is about helping leaders and teams focus on what truly matters, create alignment, and take intentional steps toward meaningful results—because success isn’t about doing more. It’s about doing the right things with purpose and presence.
